The number of entries into the store. A camera at each entrance counts people as they come in. A person who steps out and back in within a short time is not counted again. Footfall is the basis for Network Footfall, Footfall Today, the Footfall chart, Rankings and scheduled reports.

Footfall is a count of visits, not of unique people across days. A customer who visits on Monday and Tuesday is two visits.

Live count (shown as In Store Now) is the number of people estimated to be inside right now: entries minus exits since midnight. Occupancy expresses it as a share of the store’s maximum capacity. The Live Count chart shows the running figure across a day.

Live count drifts if a camera misses an entry or exit. Bon staff can reset it when it goes wrong; the chart starts fresh at midnight each day.

Pace vs Yesterday compares footfall from today’s opening time until now against the same span yesterday. The hour in progress is scaled by how much of it has elapsed, so a reading at 2:20 pm compares against yesterday up to 2:20 pm.

The weekly average is the total of the seven days ending yesterday divided by seven. The 30-day baseline is the average daily footfall over the 30 days before the period, shown as a dashed line on the 7-day and 30-day charts and used for the vs Prior Period figure.

A zone is an area drawn on a camera’s view: an entrance, an exit, a checkout or an area of interest such as a display. Zone footfall is the number of distinct people seen in a zone during a time bucket.

Because each bucket counts people rather than visits:

  • buckets do not add up to a daily total;
  • hourly numbers are smaller than the sum of the 10-minute numbers inside them;
  • zone footfall is not comparable with entrance footfall.

The average time a visitor spent in a zone, shown on the heatmap. It is calculated per zone, not for the whole store.

A transition is a visitor moving from one zone to another. Top Zone Transitions lists the most common ones; trips directly from an entrance to an exit, and movements within one zone, are excluded.

Age and gender are estimated by the camera for each visitor and reported as bands:

Band Ages
Child under 13
Teen 13 to 19
Young Adult 20 to 35
Adult 36 to 55
Senior 56 and over
Unknown could not be estimated

Estimates are made on the device and only the band is kept. The network view on the Overview shows percentages without the Unknown band; a single store shows counts and Unknown as well. A store’s counting exclusions remove chosen bands from footfall.

The peak hour is the hour with the most entries in a day; the peak day is the day with the most entries in a period. The Peak Hours ranking metric is the share of a day’s footfall that fell in its busiest hour, averaged over completed days.

Each store-day is assigned its dominant condition: Clear, Cloudy, Rainy, Drizzle, Stormy, Snowy, Foggy or Mixed, with the day’s average temperature. Weather comes from the store’s address, so a store without an address has no weather.
